The largest will allow the production of a dragonfly or fairy with a 3 FOOT wingspan! The wings are drawn from life using a Green Darner dragonfly...... The Green Darner is native to the U.S. and is one of the largest and fastest flying dragonflies. It has a 5" wing span and has been clocked at 53 mph.

Here is an example of one way to use the wing filigree. Note: the wings overlap the body and taper down to the surface giving a more three dimensional look. Ripple glass was used in large sections to simulate water beneath the dragonfly. Bullseye ® thin iridescent clear glass for the wings. Chicago Art Glass Iridescent Blue Luster was used for the body. Iridescent red globs were added at the bottom, ala Tiffany. For an antique look, the brass was darkened. Due to the iridescent glass this could not be electro-plated so a special copper sulfate chemical patina was applied giving it a mottled effect. The eyes were ground to fit closely and applied on top for an even more three dimensional look. The entire edge was reinforced with 14 gauge copper wire. CLICK on the photos for a close up view.
